1. How can I get a copy of a police report?

Accident Reports

You may purchase Accidents Reports online for $6, available 24 hours a day, or in person for a fee of $4 at the Records Unit of the Odessa Police Department. We cannot accept mail requests for accident reports.

Offense / Incident Reports

Offense/Incident Reports can be obtained in person from the Odessa Police Department Records Unit. Cash or money order only. Personal checks are not accepted.

Records are available during normal business hours of Monday through Friday from 8 am to 5 pm Central Standard Time (CST) (excluding holidays). The Records Unit is part of the Odessa Police Department, located at:

2. How can I check if someone is in jail and how do I get them out?

You may access the Ector County Jail Records Inquiry website to view inmates in jail and recent arrests.

The method for getting a person released from jail varies depending on the offense(s) charged against the arrested person. You may contact the Ector County Sheriff’s Office at 432-335-3060 to obtain more information on release methods.

3. How can I register my residential or business alarm?

4. How do I get fingerprinted?

Fingerprinting services are available through IdentoGo, or at the Odessa Police Department. For more information on Police Department fingerprinting services, visit the Records Unit page.

6. How can I file a complaint against an officer?

Complaints may be filed by contacting the Odessa Police Department Front Desk, Monday through Friday, 8 am to 5 pm, by phone at 432-335-4961 or in person at:

7. How can I request an off-duty officer?

Upon request, officers may be available to work off-duty employment. To request an off-duty officer you must contact the Bureau of Field Operations Secretary, Ms. Gilda Jimenez, at 432-335-3343, Monday through Friday, from 8 am to 5 pm.

The following information is required:

• Contact person name and phone number
• Method of payment to the officer, i.e. check, cash, etc.
• Name of business
• Number of hours requested to work

8. What is the Department's policy regarding racial profiling?

Race, ethnicity, religion, gender, or sexual orientation of an individual shall not be a factor in determining the existence of probable cause to take into custody or to arrest an individual or in constituting a reasonable and articulable suspicion that an offense has been or is being committed so as to justify the determination of an individual or the investigatory stop of a motor vehicle or pedestrian.

9. How can I find out what beat or sector I am in?

10. Why didn't you make a report on my minor accident?

It is the policy of the Odessa Police Department that accidents involving only minor damage to property and no injuries requiring transport will not be investigated and no report will be taken.

12. How can I adopt an animal from Animal Control?

In order to adopt an animal you must present a valid Driver’s License and a current utility bill: either water, gas or electric. The address on the Driver’s License must match the address on the utility bill.

Costs

• $51 for an adult cat or dog
• $35 for kitten or puppy

Requirements

Animals must have their rabies shots within 48 hours of adoption and be spayed or neutered within a given time frame.
